Electronic Poker is a beloved game that usually will be played in casinos around the world, or in your house on your computer, using a net connection. The game rules are very simple and involve the player attempting to achieve the highest mixture of cards as you can in order to acquire money. In this respect it is much the same as a regular game of poker, apart from the interaction with competing players. Of course, techniques used in a physical game of poker, like tricking, will be useless here.

The game of Video Poker starts when the bettor inserts credits (whether it is tokens, credit slips or cash) into the video poker machine and presses the draw button. A hand of five cards will then be "dealt" on the video screen.

The Electronic Poker machine also has hold buttons, and bettors will need to now decide which cards to keep and which to discard. For the cards the bettor wishes to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they light up. The player can choose to keep any amount of cards they wish, whether it’s all or none.

After the gambler has chosen which cards he would like to keep, they should press ‘draw’, at which point any new cards are needed they will be dealt. The round is now finished, with the Video Poker machine scanning the hand to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands printed on the payment schedule.

Typically, the lowest succeeding hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money getting larger for each better hand. A common list of winning hands starts with jacks or better, moving on to 2 pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It should be known that the payment schedule can change from machine to machine, so that experienced gamblers are able to select the most beneficial game each time.

As soon as the first round has finished, the player can either choose to remain on and try to to increase their earnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any credits that they may have won. Additionally, some styles of the game give the bettor an opportunity to double their wins, in which instance a further hand is played. There are also differences among individual machines, with some decks of cards having wild cards and other varying elements to enhance playability.
